Dr Bernadette Devilat L.
Bernadette is the Principal Investigator of this project. She is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Architecture and the Built Environment of the University of Nottingham, part of the Architecture, Culture & Tectonics Research group. She holds a PhD in Architectural Design from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL; and is a practising Architect in Chile and Master in Architecture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC).
Bernadette is co-founder of DLA Scan Architectural Studio and was the creator of BScan, a 3D-laser-scanning teaching cluster at the Bartlett School of Architecture, focusing on representation and digital preservation. More about her research and history here. She is member of professional associations and scientific committees, member of the AHRC Peer Review College and peer-reviewer for the Journal of Housing and the Built Environment. She has obtained several funding and scholarships to carry out her research. Bernadette has presented as guest key speaker, presented her work at international conferences and seminars, published and exhibited her research internationally. She has taught at PUC, UCL, NTU and, currently, at the University of Nottingham.
Bernardita Devilat es la Investigadora Principal de este proyecto. Es Profesora Asistente en el Departamento de Arquitectura y Medio ambiente Construido de la Universidad de Nottingham, parte del grupo de Investigación Arquitectura, Cultura y Tectónica. Es Doctora en Diseño Arquitectónico de la Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (UCL), Arquitecta y Magíster en Arquitectura de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).
Bernardita es co-fundadora de DLA Scan Architectural Studio y fue creadora de BScan, un cluster de enseñanza de escaneo láser 3D en la Bartlett School of Architecture UCL, enfocándose en representación y preservación digital. Ella es miembro de asociaciones profesionales y comités científicos, miembro del AHRC Peer Review College y peer-reviewer del Journal of Housing and the Built Environment. Ha obtenido financiamiento y becas para realizar su investigación. Bernardita ha dado charlas como invitada y presentado trabajos en conferencias y seminarios internacionales, ha publicando en revistas y libros, y ha exhibido su trabajo visual internacionalmente. Ha enseñado en PUC, UCL, NTU y, actualmente, en la Universidad de Nottingham.
Dr Felipe Lanuza
Felipe is a Research Fellow of this project. He is an Architect from Chile and is currently based at the Architecture, Culture and Tectonics Research Group, University of Nottingham. He also teaches studio and theory at the MA in Architectural Design at the University of Sheffield. Felipe obtained his BA and professional qualification as an architect at the University of Chile, a Master in Architecture at the Catholic University of Chile (PUC), and a PhD in Architectural Design from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (UCL).
After completing his PhD, Felipe has worked in research at the UCL Urban Laboratory and at the Centre for Architecture, Urbanism and Global Heritage (CAUGH) of Nottingham Trent University (NTU). Experiences and discourses of absence in the built environment are Felipe’s core research subject, to build up alternative understandings and representations of urban change, and to inform design thinking. He has disseminated his research internationally through publications, exhibitions, presentations at conferences, and invited talks.
His international teaching experience spans 20 years and covers interior design, architecture, urban and landscape design, as well as architectural history and theory, at the Universities of Greenwich and Kingston (UK), PUC and Talca (Chile), Puerto Rico (PR), among others. He served as an External Examiner for the Interior Design BA at the University of East London, and has been recently invited for project reviews at the MA Creative Practice at the Bartlett UCL, the Manchester School of Architecture in the UK, the Master in Architectural Conservation and Regeneration at CEPT University in India, and at the Georgia Tech School of Architecture in the USA. Felipe is a co-founder of DLA Scan Architectural Studio and member of Urban Transcripts.
Felipe Lanuza es Arquitecto de la Universidad de Chile, Magíster en Arquitectura por la Universidad Católica de Chile, y PhD in Architectural Design por La Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. Actualmente es Research Fellow en el grupo de investigación Architecture, Culture and Tectonics, de la University of Nottingham y hace clases de proyectos y teoría en el Magíster de Diseño Arquitectónico en la University of Sheffield.
Después de terminar su doctorado, Felipe trabajó en investigación en el UCL Urban Laboratory y en el Centre for Architecture, Urbanism and Global Heritage (CAUGH) de Nottingham Trent University (NTU). Su principal tema de investigación explora experiencias y discursos de ausencia en el medio construido, para crear representaciones alternativas de cambios urbanos e informar aproximaciones al diseño. Felipe ha diseminado su investigación internacionalmente a través de publicaciones, exhibiciones, presentaciones en conferencias, y como presentador invitado.
Su experiencia docente es de carácter internacional y abarca 20 años, en las áreas de diseño interior, arquitectura, diseño urbano y del paisaje, y teoría e historia de la arquitectura. Felipe fue Examinador Externo en el programa de Interior Design de la University of East London y recientemente ha sido invitado a revisiones de proyectos en el Master of Arts in Creative Practice en la Bartlett UCL y en la Manchester School of Architecture en el Reino Unido; en el Master in Architectural Conservation and Regeneration de la Universidad CEPT en India; y en la Georgia Tech School of Architecture en los Estados Unidos. Dr Umberto Bonomo
Umberto Bonomo is a collaborator of this project. He is an Architect (IUAV, Venice, Italy, 2004); and Doctor in Architecture and Urban Studies (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Chile, 2009). He works on Heritage, urbanism and Social Housing looking for points of contact between theory and practice. He has exhibited at the Biennial of Chile, Shenzhen, Sao Paulo and Venice. He wrote in Casabella, Domus, Abitare and the Giornale dell’architettura. Relevant publications (Ibarra, M; Ramírez, C; Bonomo U; Heritage under construction, Reflections for Secondary Education, UC Santiago editions, 2017). He is an active member of Docomomo Chile. He has done consultancies and studies for the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage in Chile and for ECLAC (CEPAL), the Inter-American Development Bank (BID), among others. He is currently an Associate Professor of the School of Architecture, of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and he is part of the Board of Our World Heritage Foundation based in Holland.
Umberto Bonomo es colaborador en este proyecto. Se graduó de Arquitecto en la Universidad IUAV de Venecia, Italia, 2004. Es Doctor en Arquitectura y Estudios Urbanos de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, 2009. Trabaja temas de Social Housing y patrimonio buscando puntos de contacto entre la teoría y la práctica. Ha Expuesto en la Bienal de Chile, de Sao Paulo y Venecia. Entre sus publicaciones, Patrimonio en construcción. Reflexiones para la Educación Media, con M. Ibarra y C. Ramírez de Ediciones UC. Santiago. 2017 y Lo Contador. Guía de Arquitectura Arte e Historia con M. Cortés de Ediciones UC y Ediciones ARQ. Santiago 2019. Es profesor Asociado de la Escuela de Arquitectura, Facultad de Arquitectura Diseño y Estudios Urbanos de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Director del Centro del Patrimonio Cultural UC y miembro del board de Our World Heritage una fundación internacional sin fines de lucro dedicada a la conservación del patrimonio mundial www.ourworldheritage.org.
Santiago Bernales
Santiago Bernales Santolaya is Research Assistant in this project. He is an architect from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2019), and Master in Architecture from the same school. He has subsequently completed, in 2021, a postgraduate diploma in “GIS applied to Tourism”, taught in the Master Paisatge program from Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya, Spain. His master investigation develops concepts of palimpsest and heritage applied to the isolated territory of Istmo de Ofqui, in Chilean Patagonia, being published by Ediciones ARQ in 2021, and presented in the III Congreso Iberoamericano de Historia Urbana at Madrid, in 2022. He has worked as an architect and landscape architect in various public and private projects in Chile, collaborating with large scale projects such as Villa Panamericana Santiago 2023, international competition Parque Urbano Las Salinas, and 2023 Venice Architecture Biennal selected Koyaüwe Landscaping. He has also performed as and independent architect realizing projects of new construction, remodelation and interior design. As an amateur and freelance photographer, he develops heritage records of architecture and landscape sites in South America and Europe.
Santiago Bernales Santolaya es el Asistente de Investigación de este proyecto. Es arquitecto de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2019), y Magíster en Arquitectura por la misma universidad. Posteriormente, se gradúa en 2021 con el diploma de postgrado “Turismo y SIG aplicado”, dictado en el programa Master Paisatge de la Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya, España. Su investigación de magíster desarrolla los conceptos de palimpsesto y patrimonio aplicados al aislado sitio del Istmo de Ofqui, en la Patagonia Chilena, siendo publicada por Ediciones ARQ en 2021, y presentada en el III Congreso Iberoamericana de Historia Urbana, realizado en Madrid en 2022. Se ha desempeñado como arquitecto y arquitecto del paisaje en variados proyectos de índole pública y privada, colaborando en proyectos de gran escala como la Villa Panamericana Santiago 2023, el concurso Internacional Parque Urbano Las Salinas, o el proyecto Koyaüwe Landscaping, seleccionado para la Bienal de Venecia de 2023. También se ha desempeñado como arquitecto independiente, realizando proyectos tanto de obra nueva como de rehabilitación y diseño interior. También se desempeña como fotógrafo amateur, realizando a lo largo de los años registros patrimoniales de sitios arquitectónicos y del paisaje en Sudamérica y Europa.
Arq Octavia Casanova
Octavia Casanova Contardo is an Architect from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (2019) and a Master in Architecture from the same University. Interested in culture and territory, she has worked as an Architect from different angles, working on GIS territorial projects, in construction and carpentry, and in museography. Her interests also include the intersection between the graphic world and audiovisual recording, mixing digital and analogue techniques.
Octavia Casanova Contardo es Arquitecta de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2019) y Magíster en Arquitectura por la misma Universidad. Interesada en cultura y territorio, se ha desempeñado como arquitecta desde distintas aristas, trabajando tanto en proyectos territoriales SIG, en construcción y carpintería, como en museografía. Sus intereses abarcan también el cruce del mundo gráfico con registro audiovisual, mezclando técnicas digitales y analógicas.
Arq Natalia Cruz Campos
Natalia is a collaborator in this project. She is an Architect from the University of Chile 2015 and Master in Architectural Heritage Intervention from the University of Chile (2022). She is the Executive Director of the ‘Heritage Churches of Chiloé Foundation’, an organization that manages the World Heritage Site of the same name, and also works on the conservation and integrated management of the heritage associated with the typology of the ‘Chiloé School of Religious Wooden Architecture’. Her most recent presentations were at the International Seminar “World Heritage City Lab: Urban Heritage and Traditional Building Practices for Sustainable Development” UNESCO 2022 and “Digital Congress on Experiences in risk management for cultural heritage in Ibero-America” ICCROM 2021. Her professional experience focuses on highlighting the role of heritage as an axis for sustainable development. In this line, she has been executing projects regarding territorial planning, architectural intervention, cultural tourism and research on the construction of an integral concept of heritage, territory and community, associated with the cultural landscape.
Natalia es colaboradora en este proyecto. Es Arquitecta de la Universidad de Chile 2015 y Magíster en Intervención del patrimonio arquitectónico de la Universidad de Chile 2022. Directora ejecutiva de la ‘Fundación Iglesias Patrimoniales de Chiloé’, organización que administra el Sitio Patrimonio Mundial del mismo nombre, y trabaja en la conservación y gestión integrada del patrimonio asociado a la tipología de ‘Escuela chilota de arquitectura religiosa en madera’. Sus más recientes ponencias fueron en el Seminario Internacional “World Heritage City Lab: Urban Heritage and Traditional Building Practices for Sustainable Development” UNESCO 2022 y “Congreso digital sobre Experiencias en gestión de riesgos para patrimonio cultural en Iberoamérica” ICCROM 2021. Tiene experiencia profesional enfocada en relevar el rol del patrimonio como eje de desarrollo sostenible. En esta línea, ha ejecutado proyectos de planificación territorial, intervención arquitectónica, turismo cultural e investigaciones en torno a la construcción de un concepto integrado de patrimonio, territorio y comunidad, asociado al paisaje cultural.
Prof Lorenzo Berg
Lorenzo is a collaborator on this project. He is a Professor at the University of Chile and an Architect trained at that institution, and a Doctor in Architecture and Urban Studies, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He has a Diploma on Architectural Restoration & Urban Conservation, from ICCROM- Rome, Italy, and a Diploma on Conservation of Wood Technologies, from the University of Trondheim Norway. Lorenzo is an academic at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism (FAU), teaching at the Master in Architectural Heritage Intervention and Final Design Thesis. He is the coordinator of the collaboration agreement between FAU and the ‘Heritage Churches of Chiloé Foundation’. He played a key role in the UNESCO Declaration of 16 Churches of the ‘Chiloé School of Religious Wooden Architecture’. Lorenzo is the President of Aldea Foundation, ex-Director and Co-founder of the Churches of Chiloé Cultural Foundation.
Lorenzo es colaborador en este proyecto. Es Profesor Titular de la Universidad de Chile, Arquitecto por la Universidad de Chile y Doctor en Arquitectura por la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Tiene un Diploma en Restauración Arquitectónica y Urbana, de ICCROM- Roma, Italia y un Diploma en Conservación de Tecnologías en Madera, Universidad Trondheim, Noruega. Lorenzo es académico de la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo (FAU), Profesor Magister en Intervención del Patrimonio Arquitectónico y Profesor guía en Proyecto de Título. Es el coordinador del convenio FAU y Fundación Iglesias Patrimoniales de Chiloé. Jugó un papel clave en la declaratoria UNESCO de 16 Iglesias de la Escuela Chilota de Arquitectura en Madera. Lorenzo es Presidente de la Fundación Aldea, Ex-Director y Co-fundador de la Fundación Cultural Iglesias de Chiloé.
Arq Gina Scharager
Gina is an Architect from the University of Chile (2023). She is currently studying a Master’s Degree in Architectural Heritage Intervention from the at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, University of Chile. She is a supporting lecturer of research and final Design Studio (leading to the Architect’s professional accreditation), at the same university. She is a collaborator to the article “Restoring with Light, Church of Santa Filomena”, published in the journal IHP N°2 (2023). She currently works in research about different heritage-related topics.
Gina es Arquitecta de la Universidad de Chile (2023) y se encuentra cursando el Magíster en Intervención del Patrimonio arquitectónico de la Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad de Chile. Es profesora ayudante de investigación y de proyecto de Título en la misma universidad. Gina es también colaboradora del artículo “Restaurando con la Luz, Iglesia de Santa Filomena”, publicado en la revista IHP N°2 (2023). Actualmente se desempeña en investigación en las diferentes áreas del patrimonio.
